Editing/Formatting/Proofreading:

I offer a variety of levels of service; each writer has different needs and so I have tried to structure my fees to accommodate those needs affordably. I am happy to edit most anything from creative to corporate or business writing.

Copy-editing:
Think of this as proofreading. I look for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. This is when you need another set of eyes and is especially helpful for authors who have revised and revised and are now blind to simple typos,  punctuation errors and homonyms. This service is often best for a business or creative writer or student with a polished piece that needs one last look.

Structural Editing:
This is a great polishing tool for any writer. When I am reading your work with structure in mind, I am looking at
• the content
• how the concepts work together
• whether or not the logic flows
• if the ideas put forth are consistent
• glaring repetitive typos
• grammar issues

Content editing:
This is the most thorough approach. I combine copy-editing with analysis of content and structure. I’ll comb through the work, read every word and every sentence very carefully and offer feedback on the structure and content. This is the ideal approach for rough business copy, a graduate thesis or dissertation  in need of work as well as the beginning or intermediate writer looking for direction.

Formatting:
Seemingly simple things like page number placement, working with headers and footers and a Table of Contents can drive some writers nuts! This service is for the writer who wants the manuscript he or she is submitting to an agent, editor or contest to look its best. This is for the student who needs to follow MLA or APA formatting guidelines. It is easy and affordable to hand a completed paper off to me to ensure that it meets the necessary formatting standards. *

*It is the writer's responsibility to communicate the correct guidelines to me. This includes detailed instructions from a contest or agent, or a rubric for a thesis or dissertation.

A word about Word

I work exclusively in Microsoft Word. This doesn’t mean that if you work with another word processing program that we can't work together. I save everything in Rich Text Format, which you can then open in just about any other word processing program. I can also convert files to pdf. We can always work something out.
